Crickets

Mosquitoes
Latin Name:
Order Orthoptera: Family Gryllidae
Appearance:
Adults about 3/4-inch long with 3 dark bands on the head and thin antennae. Body is yellowish-brown. They have somewhat flattened bodies and long antennae. Crickets tend to be nocturnal and are often confused with grasshoppers (which are related, but not the same), because they have a similar body structure including jumping hind legs.
Habit:
Active at night. Attracted to lights. Crickets are known for their chirp (which only male crickets can do; male wings have ridges that act like a "comb and file" instrument).
Diet:
Omnivorous: eat almost anything available.
Reproduction:
Closely related to cockroach reproduction.
Other:
House crickets can damage silk, woolens, paper, fruits and vegetables. Crickets kept as pets or used as food for another pet/animal can get loose and cause annoyances, if not infestations if a large number escape.
